SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day. This day is celebrated every year on 12 February to raise awareness about this topic in society. Its purpose is to make people aware of health problems related to sex and reproduction. The World Health Organization states that the scope of SRH is not limited only to sexual diseases, but its importance is also linked to people’s physical, emotional, mental, and social strengths.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT SAFE SEX

According to the National Health Portal of the Government of India, people should know information related to sexual and reproductive health, such as how to safely adopt contraceptive methods, how to avoid sexually transmitted infections (HIV-AIDS), unwanted pregnancy, and unsafe abortion.

An important purpose of celebrating SRHday is that women should know whether they are eligible to become mothers or not. They should know whether their body is capable of giving birth to an infant. This awareness will facilitate women in a healthy pregnancy, safe delivery, and healthy baby attainment. Also, read- You may not know these things about Orgasm

SEXUAL HEALTH STATUS OF WOMEN AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SRH ADE?

To understand the importance of Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day in India, it is important to understand the state of sexual health of women here. For this, some statistics of the Government of India can be seen –

  • According to 2006 data, at that time 28 percent of girls in the age group of 15 to 19 years were having sex at some time.
  • 31 percent of the girls in the same age group were married at the age of 15–19. Of these, 28 percent had sexual relations with the husband. At the same time, three percent of the women were not living with their husbands due to different reasons.
  • About 13 percent of the women consumed relatively contraceptive pills. 27 percent of women abstained from pregnancy for two years, although they did not adopt any procedure during this time.
  • This indicates how little sexual information women have in both urban and rural areas, which can harm their health.

A WOMAN NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT CONTRACEPTION

According to a National Health report of the Government of India, women should know about the services that help them in avoiding unwanted pregnancy. (Sexual and reproductive health) Birth control pills help prevent unwanted pregnancy. This may reduce the rising figures of abortion, which would be a good indication of women’s sexual health. Knowledge of reproductive and sexual health will reduce the incidence of sedatives, deaths due to them, and disability during pregnancy and delivery.

PREGNANCY AND UNSAFE ABORTION DUE TO LACK OF AWARENESS

According to reports, there is an increased risk of unwanted pregnancies when women lack services and information available. In terms of statistics, more than half of the pregnancy-related cases are of unwanted pregnancy. More than 50 percent of these cases eventually lead to miscarriage. At the same time, if abortion is unsafe, it threatens the life and health of women. However, some measures can prevent unsafe abortion. Here the importance of sex and related health education increases.
